Drawing and painting in city parks gives you the opportunity to practice combining architecture, nature, and people into a simple  and comprehensible composition.

Carrying your painting gear while shopping, having a meeting, visiting museums, or having a dinner date is usually awkward at best, but if you keep it very simple and portable, you can stay out all day and yet be prepared to paint.
