Refresh your spirit with Fearless Drawing and Painting and then share your art with the world!
This week, think about how you might put together a painting show by approaching it more as a party.
Free your imagination to think of variations on this theme: If you hang your work with a magnet on the refrigerator, you might have “Frig Fridays”. Invite friends over to admire what you’ve been doing and serve ice cream straight from the freezer .
This summer I’ve been painting Lake Champlain in Vermont, so I decided to invite the people who summer here on Thompson’s Point to an afternoon party with wine and cheese. It would be an opportunity to meet each other as well as to show my sister’s hand sewn bark cloth pillows along with my summer paintings. Could you do this in your neighborhood or where you take your vacation?
1. Create your art.
2. Invite the people.
To make quick, easy, and inexpensive invitations, I posed paintings and pillows and took a photo. A hand written note (zeroxed four to a page) was glued to the back of the photos. The only equipment needed – a camera and glue stick. Result: 100 invites in the casual summer spirit for under $20.
3. Tidy up your space and serve appropriate refreshments.
4. Arrange the creations leaving room for mingling.
5. Talk about your work. Get names of interested people. If you do commissions, let that be known.
