Silver Linings (Online art lesson #25)

I'll be back at the helm soon!

I walk across the open air linoleum on an exposed foundation and exit through a former wall.

Such a glorious view! With the Green Mountains behind the marina, plenty of shade, and a fringe of daylilies at Lake Champlain’s edge, it makes an ideal painting location.  And the owners probably won’t mind –  since their house  burned to the ground.

I’ve painted there twice already. I expected to be too busy, but I’ve had lots of time to paint this week – since my computer crashed taking my to-do list and all the things that I was working on with it.

Everything has an up side and a down side.  Your assignment this week is to find the Silver Lining in something that seems to be holding you back.  Whether stymied or stunned, ask the question, “What possibly could  be good about this?”  There’s usually something.

Carry on!  Share your stories in the comments. Next week, I’ll be back at the helm.  It will be different -I don’t have spell check (gasp) or a lot of other things, but I’ve got a stack of paintings and will plan a good lesson.  How would you  like “How to draw an adirondack chair”?

NOTE: I won’t have your email address unless you email me again.

  1. Ahhh–“the best-laid plans…” I guess that goes along with getting out of your comfort zone, eh? I’m glad you are readily able to find the silver linings. I can imagine no less from you. You have an exhuberant spirit that can tackle just about anything! I am blessed to have you in my life. You Go, Girl!!! …oh! and BTW, we miss you here!

  2. Lillian Kennedy says:

Thanks Margaret – I miss you too. You are a blessing in my life!

  3. Janette Rozene says:

My Silver Lining this week is you! You suggested we go paint with other artists and I didn’t know anyone to paint with. Then you suggested I join the Meetup group in Central Park! I have gone 3 times already and am loving the adrenaline flow of painting a small watercolor in the 45 minute meetup time frame, surrounded by other artists sketching. Glad you are enjoying painting in Vermont. love you. Janette

  4. Jill Musser says:

What a good reminder, yes, there is always something good coming out of what seemed bad – if one is looking for it and are open to it! No computer for awhile may seem very freeing ! These machines have changed most of our lives, it would be freeing to absolutely not be able to use it for awhile – if just to remember what is used to be like to get along with less information and less communication!!

  5. Mike Reynolds says:

Looking forward to having you back! Even though things are hectic and I have too much to do, I will make time for that. I have seen a few silver linings lately too, but they certainly don’t seem so benign (sp?) when they are happening. I commend you on your ability to go with the flow. It ain’t easy. We all miss you.
