Let The Weekly Art Lesson become your Creative Oasis – a place for you to refresh your spirit and practice the art of drawing and painting without fear. Browse the archives for back lessons. Subscribe. It’s always FREE, fun and positive. But I always take it with extreme seriousness as well.
Watch the video to get to learn about my one aspect of my philosophy:
Staycation Series: During this pandemic, I will post a lesson every two weeks and design the lessons to be both calming and invigorating. While we shelter in place, I will make lessons that only require a pencil and paper because I figure everyone has these around. Fancy paper not required. Now would be a great time to start drawing again. You drew as a child, right? Some of you have continued to draw and paint all your lives. All of you are welcome.
Drawing and painting can lead to tremendous centering and joy. We are doing this to bring mindfulness and pleasure into our lives – not to become great artists. Doing it, however, WILL improve your ability to do it “better”. Art at this site is a practice and a path not a destination.
If you want the lessons to come directly to your inbox each week, be sure to subscribe by entering your email in the subscription box on the right. Then confirm your subscription in the email that you receive. To protect your privacy I can not sign up for you.
The lessons will share images, ideas, and tips. I am using a WordPress site that has been dormant for years, and I will draw from the old lessons but stay current with the times. The tagline at WeeklyArtLesson.com has always been “Refresh your Spirit with Fearless Drawing and Painting” because I believe that it will.
It will be helpful to me if you post what is working for you and what you would like to learn in the comments section. The comments section is there for sharing and getting to know one another.
If you feel that these lessons will help others, please share them. Forward the link or post it on your social media accounts. FYI, I am not active on social media.
The artist’s journey is quite a ride…. sometimes it’s wild and rough – other times it’s serene and blissful; but all the time it is easier to grow our art if we have a motivating and supportive environment.
Everything from basic techniques to overcoming creative blocks will be covered, but the primary goal of this site will always be the development of your authentic self-expression as an artist.
- Lessons are designed to work on any level.
- Join in at any time – the lessons aren’t sequential.
Lillian Kennedy
It is my intention to gather a community where everyone will be welcomed, supported, and motivated on their own creative journey.
Lillian has a Master’s in Painting from Parson’s School of Design in NYC. Her teaching has ranged from “Advanced light, color, and design” at Pratt Institute of Design in NYC to “Art for Creative Growth” at Burlington College back in the 1970s. Her teaching philosophy is that everyone can learn the basics with encouragement and instruction. She is known for bringing out the uniqueness in each individual.
Lillian’s landscape paintings are in private and corporate collections all over the world. She ran a business from her Union Square studio in NYC doing corporate and private commissions. Her mural work can be seen in places such as the Tavern on the Green, the Bronx Zoo, and the old Sunset Park Courthouse in NYC.
She has had one person shows throughout the United States.
Lillian’s creative pursuits are inspired by her passion for Nature, Art, and Spirituality.
Endless THANKS to Dave Sullivan who saved this blog site. Volunteering through the Bixby Library in Vergennes, VT, he is unraveling and repairing the technical problems for me as they appear.
The site had been hacked and was all in Arabic – I kid you not! It had cars and things… I couldn’t access any of it. Dave leaned into the problem with a keen interest that I understand better now that I know that he has his own blog about Crossword puzzles and has created puzzles for the New York Times. It does take a village to make most things happen, and it sure helps that a generous and gifted man such as Dave is here in mine .
